Psalm Psonnets Excerpts

"A COUNTRY LOVE SONG"

Across the meadow she ran to me
With arms that opened wide-
A surge of love came over me
Like that of rushing tide,
My heart-strings twanged a melody
That I can now recall-
Her footsteps were like thunder from
The Wabash Cannonball.

Her nails were sharpened to a point
And for my eyes they went,
I hit her with my walking stick
As my new shirt she rent,

"Let me speak," I shouted
As she mounted her next assault,
"Those girls you saw me with last night
Believe me, weren't my fault."

Listening not, she scooped some hay
Which there lay idly by,
She took my asthma bottle
And blew pollen in my eye,

And as I sat there crying
With my eyes all turning red,
She grabbed a piece of deadwood
And laid knots upon m head.

Ready to listen finally
Exhausted, she sat down,
My tongue which had been 'tween my teeth
Lay severed on the ground,

A cough, a grunt a heavy belch
Were the only words I spoke,
To any other human kind
It would have been a joke,

But not to my most loving gal
Who now knew I was true,
Who's heart did melt like candle wax-
When I sang, "I uv oo"...

Psalm 23...Reflection on Psalm 23
Psalm twenty-three, tis perfect prose
for challenges this world doth pose
I shall not want, my Lord provides
His rod and staff, they gently guide-
to pastures green, and quiet streams
and righteousness, the path supreme
But off that path in death's dark vale
I fear no ill, Your peace prevails
Your 'nointing oil brings honor, health
providing me with Godly wealth
Your love and grace flow o'er my cup
and of these gifts there's no let up
That's why with Him I'll gladly dwell
in this life now, the next as well

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this Psalm that brings me so much comfort and assurance, in Jesus Name, Amen.

TWO STRANGE FRIENDS
Men have lived and men have died but no man's lived as he-
The five-foot 'leven Engineer on good ole' forty-three.

When they come you'll know they're here, he lets the whistle scream-
No stoppin' Reub when 43 has got a head of steam.

Cause 43 and good ole Reub, at 4 a.m. they roll-
Out of bed and to the yard to load her up with coal.

Two thousand ton had 43, it 'twas a heavy freight-
They had 5 hours to get there, and ne'er had they been late.

First time in her fourteen years, four-three didn't make it there-
She lay aside her steam shut off, a sight which Reub couldn't bear.

A new machine is on the tracks, runs smooth and faster too-
It brought a tear to Reuben's eye, He didn't know what to do.

"It's much too quiet," shouted Reub, "Twill never give me thrills-
Like me and good ole 43, while roarin' through the hills.

And now his cap is on the hook, his overalls there too-
A man like Reub you can't keep down, no feelin' sad and blue.

Though now he's old and aging fast, to grand kids he does tell-
Of he and good ole 43, chuggin' merrily through  the dells.

(from Psalm Psonnets)
WORDS OF WISDOM

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. Psalm 125:1

When I was but a little boy
My mother taught me to employ
God's words of wisdom for each day
To help me on the narrow way
She said that I could trust my Lord
Whenever problems 'round me soared
And He would hear my heart's complaint
And answer me without restraint
I found my strength was sound in Him
For toils without and toils within
Now Jesus is my solid rock
On whom I stand around the clock
For nothing can withstand His power
Not even Satan in his hour

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your Spirit and strength that in all things, I'm able to stand, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 91...Angela and The Word
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. Ps. 91:11-12
Angels, Angels, everywhere
with their orders to take care
of God's children young and old
doing just what they've been told
With these words Bel* tried his best
to get Jesus to confess
That he was this world's lone Prince
Jesus never even winced
He told Satan by God's Word
his temptations were absurd
So do we tell Bel the same
'long with Jesus pow'r-filled Name
God's pure Word is our defense
to counter Bel and him dispense
(*Bel...short for Beelzebub, one of many names for Satan)
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your angels and Your Sword of the Spirit to use offensively and successfully against Satan and his minions, in Jesus Name, Amen.

THE LITTLE BIRD
Don't know why, no reason's clear,
My brother's flew, And I'm still here!
Counted their feathers yesterday, same as mine so "what the hey!"
Ate mom's worms she gave to me,
So why this shaking in my knee.
Can't find the nerve to take this leap,
I think of life as more than cheap.

Long      way     down    from     top     this          tree,
Must I stay and ne'er be free,
Can no longer fight this urge,
Time's fulfilled for this here bird-
So here I go, now what's that word-

"GERONIMO"!        I'M IN THE AIR-
And gone forever is my care.
And up I'll fly as high I can,
To give Him thanks for all I am.

  TWO STRANGE FRIENDS- A SEQUEL

'Twas '48 a change was made, they took Reub's steam away,
"More power", they said, "is what we need", And 'Diesel' came that day.

Tis true the big orange diesel horse, was thoroughbred  compare,
And on that day a little died, with pain no one aware.

So Reub and all the GN boys, rolled down the brand new line,
As brothers close they worked their day, no mind to changin' times.

The spirit of that huffin' horse stoked hot within their veins,
No matter for the work was play, together they remained.

In rain or snow or dead of night, an inner peace they share,
That lonesome rhythm they all loved, could rock away their cares.

For Reub the years rolled by so fast, like the beat of a bouncin' track,
And from afar a dim red light told him no turnin' back.

And now that steam horse calls to him, a sound only he can hear,
He changes tracks while on the go, With friends forever near.

The First Snowfall

With all the commotion in the sky-
The cross on the church, it still stood high.

Winds a-blazing, the air so cold-
Daring nature as it stood bold.

The wind then blew with all its might-
The snow slashed frantically into the night.

When morn did come, the air was still-
The cross still stood amidst the chill.

As though a disciple in the sky-
The symbol of love, it still stood high.

This sight I'll remember most of all-
The cross in the night of the first snow fall.

Psalm 46...Be Still and Know
Be still, and know that I am God.  The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalm 46:10a, 11
My knees are shaking
My soul is quaking
And You say...."Be still."
My heart's fast beating
My fear's repeating
Again You say...."Be still."
While I'm stressing so
And all my strength is low
You then let me know
"That I am God."
Because Your word's true
I'm still, through and through
'N it's all because....You are God.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your still small Voice and the 'faith ears' to hear it, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 43...Just Talkin' To Myself
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Psalm 43:5
'A time has come,' I said to Self
Stop crying-'woe is me'
For our dear Lord has got a plan
a plan for you and me
A  plan to bring us joy and peace
and bring us back our smile
and take our minds off all that's bad
unholy, sad, or vile
His plan includes a Savior who
will all our sins forgive
and by His love show us the way
in His true Spirit live
So Self, remove that forlorn face
and put your hope in God
and set your feet upon His path
where other saints have trod
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your plan for each of our lives, and Your love which allows us to put our faith and hope in You, in Jesus Name, Amen.

(from Psalm Psonnets)
CONSTANTLY DOING RIGHT

Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.
Psalm 106:3

Constantly?
How about nine out of ten?
Go on, and just say when!
And I'll try some more!
Say, three out of four?
Will that make due?
Or, one out of two?
But constantly?
Continually?
Repeatedly?
Perfectly?
I can't.
But Jesus can.
I need His hand.
He's got THE PLAN!
By Him I will forever stand.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for fulfilling what I couldn't do (nor ever will), keep Your perfect Law. Through faith (Your gift) I'm declared justified, righteous and blameless! Thank you thank you, thank you, Lord! in Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 1...My Heart's Delight
Blessed is the man [whose] delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:1a, 2
Your Law's so full of blessings, Lord
Tis love, the same, from you outpoured
Its purpose is my heart's delight
'Midst bright of day or dark of night
In day, I lean on it for strength
To see me through its hard time length
At night, it brings Your well-deep peace
Reminding me my sin's released
In dreadful days or days most fair
I'm thankful Lord, its ever there
And when I'm low it lifts me up
Till blessings flow well o'er my cup
What joy Your law brings me discrete
And makes my life with You complete
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your perfect Law, and though I can't keep it, thank you for Jesus who did it for me and all Your children, in His Name, Amen.

Psalm 119...Lost and Saged
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart. Psalm 119:2 (Aleph)
There once was a bum from L.A.
Who walked in God's statutes all day
He hadn't a dime
But twas rich all the time
By following Jesus' pure way
Dear Jesus, thank you for being my Way, and Truth, and Life, in Your Name, Amen.

Psalm 119...Praising Through Pain
It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. Psalm 119:71(Teth)
There once was a patient from Mayo
Who'd writhe in his pain night and day-o
He said, "That's OK,
I still learn that way!"
And praised God the same and the same-o
Dear Heavenly, thank you from the lessons You teach me through my pain and struggles, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 119...Watery Blessings
Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. Psalm 119:97 (Mem)
There once was a man from Siam
Who pondered God's Word while he swam
He pounded out laps
'N filled his skull cap
With thoughts of Almighty I AM
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the inner peace, assurance, and joy I receive in meditating upon Your Word, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 118...Today's The Day
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
Many are born, many will die
Many rejoice, many will cry
Many will win, many will lose
Many will work, many will snooze
Today it will happen, just as God planned
A day planned for eons, at His command
There will be hist'ry that soon will unfold
As well as some stories that never been told
Some will show courage and some will be weak
Some will be doing while others just speak
Some will be faithful but all will have sinned
All will need mercy from God from within
For this is the day that for us God has made
We will rejoice and be glad and unswayed
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this day and all Your blessings, both spiritual and temporal, in Jesus Name, Amen.

A Winter's Night

As I walked into the night-
I stopped and beheld an awesome sight.

The moon did shine as never before-
As though it would be 'never-more'.

The stars were flashing 'cross the sky-
It took my breath and made me cry.

Across the spacious wide-spread hills-
Lay pure white snow with all its thrills.

My emotions were jumping everywhere-
But with this sight, I could not care.

For these are only human eyes-
What they can 'get' it all applies,
that this is a normal winter's night,
another gift of God's great might.

 A MOTHER'S LOVE
Settle back and take it easy
It's true, your aging fast,
For the love that you have given
With me will always last.

In times of need when all seemed dark,
I came to you for aid,
And with your words of comfort,
Came a light to show the way.

At times I thought I'd never live
to hear your preaching stop-
But in my heart I knew you're right,
And me that was the flop!

And now I'm old with much success
And children of my own,
I look back and thank you, Mom,
For all I've come to know.

And from your place in heaven,
You send kindness from above,
I can  ne'er forget the goodness,
Of my mother's selfless love.
